Sara McLarty - ITU Triathlete and USA Olymic Hopeful
 | Sara competed in her first triathlon at age seven after watching her mother complete an event. She took to the sport with a passion and went on to win four IronKids Triathlon National Championships from 1993-96. While earning a degree in telecommunications at the University of Florida Sara racked up 15 NCAA All-American awards, four individual SEC Conference titles and was 2004 NCAA Florida Woman of the Year. She finished fourth in the 400 meter freestyle at the 2004 USA Olympic Team Trials and won a silver medal at the SCM World Championships in the 400m free, and a bronze medal at the Open Water World Championships 5K swim. Sara began her pro career with the Under-23 World Championships in 2005 and was named USAT U23 Female Athlete of the Year. She moved up to World Cup races in 2006 with a record setting 16:30 for the 1500 meter swim at the Japan World Cup and won the Aquathlon World Championships in Lausanne Switzerland. Sara is now in the two-year process of training and qualifying for the Beijing 2008 Olympics and is currently ranked 24th in the ITU World Cup rankings. She lives and trains at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co. Outside the competitive world of triathlon, Sara is a spokesperson for IronKids Triathlon and writes for USA Triathlon Life magazine.
