Clinic Outline

  1. Get a goal – learn how to select your first multisport event.
  2. Get knowledge – learn how to educate yourself about multisport events.
  3. Get equipment – learn about what swim, bike, run and other equipment you need for your first event.
  4. Get a program & pals – learn why you should have a training plan, how to get one, and why it helps to have training partners.
  5. Get a game plan – learn about what to expect on race day and how to be ready for it.


 Marti BissingerMarti Bissinger has been an assistant coach for the Nashville Team in Training triathlon teams for the past 5 years.  During that time she has helped to welcome numerous athletes to the fun world of multisports.  She can ease your fears and answer the many questions you might have about getting started in triathlon.  Marti has several years experience as a top ranked duathlete and triathlete.  She is a prior overall winner of the Great Floridian and Vineman Ironman triathlons, and two time finisher of the Hawaii Ironman.  Marti also had several top finishes at ITU Duathlon World Championships and the prestigious Zofingen Duathlon in Switzerland.  Yet, her true talents are in educating new athletes in how to train smart and keep it fun!


John Couzins John Couzins got his start in multisports as a member of an Atlanta Team in Training triathlon team.  Since that time he has completed 14 events with Team in Training and mentored over 100 new athletes through the Team in Training programs.  On his own, he has finished 6 Ironman events and is currently training for Ironman Austria.  John can answer all your questions – from start to finish – about what is involved in preparing for a successful experience at your first triathlon.


 Kathleen JohnstonKathleen Johnston is a certified USA Triathlon Level II,  USA Cycling Level 3 and Team in Training triathlon coach.  Kathleen has been active in the multisport community for over 17 years and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others through her involvement with Team in Training and her TriSuccess coaching business.  She serves on the board of directors for the USAT-SE Region, the Greater Nashville Athletic Club and the USAT Aquathlon Commission.  Kathleen races for the “Will Race for Cookies” Baker’s Breakfast Cookie triathlon team and has been a member of Team USA and an All-American in Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon.
